Amenity kits, shaped by the weather phenomena of flight.

In close collaboration with KLM, Envisions created a series of multipurpose amenity bags for World Business Class travellers. Inspired by the ever-changing weather phenomena experienced during flight, the collection moves beyond the traditional toiletry bag – inviting new uses in everyday life through custom-woven textiles that tell both a visual and tactile story.

Theme

When the rain paints magnifying drops on the airplane window

During the flight, rain forms water beads on the window surface, each droplet acting as a tiny lens that enlarges the world beyond. The custom-woven fabric echoes this phenomenom – woven dots are blown-up fragments from the main blocked pattern, recreating that sense of magnification in material form.

The amenity kit takes the shape of a classic bucket bag, topped with a custom perforated fabric that echoes the woven block pattern. Designed to outlast the flight, it’s a versatile companion for wherever the journey continues.

A FRONT ROW SEAT TO THE WONDROUS PHENOMENA OF SUNLIGHT

From dawn to dusk, the quality of sunlight changes constantly. At 30,000 feet, you get a front-row seat to this intriguing spectacle of colour and light. The custom developed textile captures this palette, translating the warm and luminous hues of sunrise and sunset into woven surface.

The bag itself mirrors this sense of transformation: unfolded, it shifts from a compact pouch into a spacious shopper. Designed to travel beyond the flight, it folds neatly into luggage or opens up as a companion for wherever the journey continues.

GENTLY BLURRING THE VIEW THROUGH THE AIRPLANE WINDOW

High above the ground, the elusive phenomenon of fog diffuses light and blends colours – softening edges while erasing boundaries. The custom-woven textile captures this quality through muted tones and softly blending colors, mirroring fog and its absorbing qualities.

The amenity kit takes its shape from the classic water bag – rolled up or unrolled, it shifts in size and proportion, adapting to whatever the journey requires.

Concept

Weather serves as a universal thread throughout this collaboration, connecting us all through a mix of wonder and familiarity. The airplane occupies a unique space – suspended between moments, carrying passengers through different phenomena. By turning to weather as a design language, Envisions sought to elevate the small, often overlooked details of the journey: the raindrop that distorts the view, the wind that shifts direction without warning.

Storytelling

Storytelling development formed the first step in this collaborative process – a phase of exploration in which different themes were tested through materials, colours, and tactile experiments, before a clear direction emerged.

Weather phenomena provided what we wanted: a framework both universal and specific. Familiar to any traveller who has watched the sky shift from a window seat, yet precise enough to give each bag its own distinct character. Rather than illustrating weather, the designs embody it – in the way a textile catches light, in the way a shape transforms in your hands.

Being built on a single overarching theme, each bag stands on its own while remaining part of a larger whole.

Textile development

The custom-developed textiles are the foundation, a starting point of the design itself. Each fabric is woven from recycled PET yarns, developed and produced in close collaboration with Austrian based textile specialist Kneitz.

This local production partner enabled Envisions to conduct personalised textile research, making it possible to translate the visual and physical qualities of each weather phenomenon directly into a woven surface.

Shape study

The collection explores distinct and recognisable archetypes – bucket, water bag, shopper, pouch – grounding the collection in familiar forms while pushing each one further.

The shapes are designed to transform: unfolding, rolling, expanding. Function shifts with the user, extending the life of each piece well beyond the flight.

Behind the scenes

Envisions’s multidisciplinary team of designers – bringing together expertise in textile development, garment construction, and more – formed the backbone of this project.

The collaboration with KLM went beyond merely product design. It opened up enriching dialogues around durability and sustainability, connecting KLM with new European suppliers and enabling personalised textile research. Made largely in Europe, the collection is the result of close teamwork between Envisions, KLM, IBG, and Kneitz – guided at every step by a shared belief that responsibility and beauty are not opposites.
